15 month check up November 20, 2008

Filed under: Hayden Blogs — karagoodwin @ 10:12 pm

Hayden had his 15 month check up last week.  He is still a big boy!  He is off the charts in height and head circumference and 75% percentile in weight.  He was 26 lbs 8 oz and 34 inches.

When the doctor checked his ear he saw he had an ear infection!  Poor little guy hadn’t given any indication that he was not well, but it was a bad enough infection that he has been put on a 10-day course of antibiotics.  It was interesting because it seemed like as soon as the dr said he had the infection, Hayden went right into ‘sick mode.’  He would not let me put him down, was very fussy (in fact, wouldn’t stop crying), and got pretty warm.  He slept for over 2 hours that afternoon and was very lethargic and cuddly when he woke up until he went to bed.  Then he woke up in the middle of the night and was awake and fussy from 2:30 am until 5.  We even brought him into our bed (which never happens) to try to get him to sleep there because we were so exhausted.  That didn’t work either; he stayed there for about 1/2 hour until he finally seemed like he was getting sleepy, then he finally fell asleep in his crib.

He was so much better when he woke up the next morning.  Obviously the ear infection did not clear up that quickly, but he has been a real star about it since that first day.  Unfortunately, when I woke up that next morning I felt terrible and was down for the count for most of that day.  Luckily it was Saturday and John could take care of us!

Telephone

Hayden has started doing the funniest thing – he uses the phone!  Although, his definition of a ‘phone’ is quite liberal.  In addition to the house phones and our cell phones, he also has a wide range of remote controls which suffice.  The cutest part is that he holds the bottom part of the phone up to his ear and the rest of it hangs down behind his shoulder.  He usually does quite a bit of babbling as well, like he is having a conversation.

Fans November 18, 2008

Hayden loves fans.  More than anything right now.  We have fans in almost every room and we’ve been having them on recently to keep the air circulating.  Every time he walks into a room with a fan he the biggest smile and just stares at for ages.  I then spin him around singing ’round and round and round’ until I get really dizzy 🙂  He has one in his room though which is really convenient for when he gets a little fussy – he quickly gets frustrated.  These two pictures make me laugh as you can guess what he is watching!! (also maybe his hair likes me laugh :D)
When we were at the Colts new stadium the other day we saw this huge fan and the first thing we thought of was how much Hayden would like it.  Next time he comes we’ll make a point to swing by and let him see it.

Interaction!

Hayden has really started to develop in the few weeks since we’ve been back from England.  You can see how his mind starts to process things.  He plays a lot with his cars, and he’ll watch me do something, like push the car down the ramp, and then he follows and does the same.  He’s worked out in his parking garage that he can put cars on the lift and then move it up and down.

He’s started to learn to throw things, and kick things.  As Kara mentioned when he wants to read a book, he’ll bring it along and sit down on us.   If he wants a drink he points to it.  If he wants a cuddle he’ll come find you with his arms out.  I know this is all natural for a baby his age, but you still feel like he is the smartest 15th month old ever 😀

Auntie Michelle

This is a bit out of sequence but just wanted to make sure I had covered our trip to England.  Hayden absolutely loved hanging out with his Aunt Michelle.  The last time he saw her was in Florida he was a little off and wasn’t at his most social.  This time, from the minute he arrived at Aunt Michelle’s house he was all about her.  He was full of smiles and cuddles all the time and liked being carried around the farm by her!

He got to have bath time, lots of play time, got fed by Michelle and best of all, got to go for a spin in Aunt Michelle’s Mini Cooper!!  Much more fun than daddy’s car!!

Hayden’s Best Friend

Following on from Kara’s post – Hayden loves Lucy right now!!  Every time she does something or runs by he runs after her to play with her (read torment her..).  He climbs on her, rides her like a pony and even chills out against her when it’s book time!  They’ve been so funny recently it was worthy of it’s own album.

Lucy’s bed November 16, 2008

Lately, whenever Hayden sees that Lucy is in her bed, his face lights up and he rushes over and climbs in with her.  He gives her big cuddles and climbs all over her.  Lucy is so good about it, she just sits there very still and lets him completely invade her space.  The fact that she is so good with him is about the only thing tipping the scales in her favor at the moment.  She has been more than a handful lately for some reason.  She ate some of the carpet in the dining room (insert your own joke here), so we had to get another gate to be able to further control where she is in the house.  That makes three of the four gates we have around the house gates we have because of the dog and not the baby (in fairness, I suppose we would have eventually put at gate at the top of the stairs because of Hayden, but we had that gate up before he was even born because of her).  Anyway, now we can confine her to the kitchen which presented its own problem last night when we had a pizza laid out on the island waiting for the oven to preheat.  John was in the office for a short time and I was upstairs with Hayden, which left Lucy alone in the kitchen.  You can see where this is going….  She ate a good portion of raw pizza.  So now since the gate things don’t seem to be turning her into a good dog I am wondering if there are dog play pens where I can just confine her to a small tiled part of the house.  😉  John says Marley and Me is coming out in a couple of weeks so we will have to go see that to be able to see her as a good dog!

Reading November 13, 2008

Filed under: Mummy On Hayden — karagoodwin @ 9:33 pm

Hayden has always been interested in books, but this week he has started a new thing where he brings a book to one of us, hands it to us (with a big smile), then crawls into our laps.  It is the sweetest thing.  If we are sitting on the floor he will climb right into our laps and cuddle up to look at the book with us.  Sometimes he is a little too far away and he will be facing away from us and then walk backwards with his little butt sticking out until he can sit down in our laps, which is so cute.  If we are up on the couch he will hand us the book then lift his arms up to be set down in our laps or on the couch next to us.  It’s just so cute!

Paul & Debbie’s Wedding November 6, 2008

Filed under: Hayden Blogs — JDG @ 2:23 am

Weddings are great!!  Paul and Debbie’s was no exception.  Hayden certainly wasn’t sure how he was supposed to behave in a church during the ceremony though.  So he took the opportunity to use his complete vocabulary which he has recently learned.   Luckily there was a quiet room in the church where he could let his vocals be heard.  Good job we don’t take him to church every Sunday!

Overall he found the whole thing a little tough.  I think so many new faces was a little over bearing, and he was a little quieter and more serious than he had been on the rest of the trip.  Michelle picked him up after a few hours of the reception so the adults could concentrate on drinking  🙂  It was a great chance to catch up with old friends, perfect chance to celebrate Paul and Debbie’s future!

Nanny Mad & Cars

Filed under: Hayden Blogs — JDG @ 2:08 am

My Nanny Mad is the best.  She buys me soo many Cars.  In fact she buys me all the actual Cars from the movie Cars, which is one of my favourites.  I’ve been playing cars so hard since i’ve been her. I play cars on the tables, on the windows, on my daddy, everywhere!! You’ll never see me without a car in my hand.  Also everytime I see a car I point at it.  I can say Red Car as well.  I’ve got one car that when I shake it makes noise and then shoots along the ground.  I can’t wait to chase Abbey around the house with it!!
