A few of Hayden’s current favourite phrases…
Hayden has always loved the dogs. He loves playing around with them. Getting toys and having them chase him. Recently if the dogs are outside, he opens the back door he’ll start shouting at the dogs to come to the door. Generally he’s just showing more interest in them.
Something specific that’s happened recently is Hayden has started to show Lucy as his clear favorite. When we go on walks he wants to take Lucy. We ask him which dog he wants to take and every time he replies Lucy. He’s generally only interested in walking Lucy. If Lucy is in the room he’ll want to go cuddle her and try and get kisses from her. Generally he just likes to know what she’s up to up. Occasionally he even likes to ride her like a pony! Lucy is brilliant throughout this process of course and just lays there and takes it! (she makes up for it being a bad dog in every other way!) Watching him walk and run along with her is priceless (except for when Lucy make a run for it, drags Hayden along, eventually he lets go and she escapes!)
Mimi is fine around Hayden, but she just pretty much doesn’t really notice him unless it’s dinner time (in which case she has learned from Lucy to beg for scraps). Hayden is pretty much the same, he doesn’t really try and sit on her and torment her like he does with Lucy!
John and I went to St Louis a couple of weekends ago to see the Colts on the road. We managed to do a lot in a very short time. We got there about 4:00 and went straight to the Budweiser brewery for a tour, which was pretty cool. Then we had dinner on “the hill,” which is the Italian district. We had a great Italian meal. Our waitress told us about an ice cream place that is apparently “famous” on Route 66 called Ted Drewes. We couldn’t resist checking it out (especially if it meant going on infamous Route 66), and when we got there the place was ridiculously busy! People were all over this building like ants on picnic crumbs. John got a strawberry shortcake (“what’s the best thing you have that doesn’t have chocolate in it” – weirdo! 🙂 ) that we shared, and it was delicious!
The next day we went to the arch in the morning. They had a really nice museum at the bottom that we toured while we waited our turn to go up. After the arch it was game time! There were so many Colts fans, it seemed like a home game! St Louis is not doing well at all this year, so naturally they are not getting the home crowds that you do when you are doing well. The Colts won easily.
Hayden stayed with Grandma and Grandpa while we were away. He had a ball! Grandma’s toy room wins again. I’m not sure he was actually ready to come home when we picked him up. He didn’t want us to leave, but he didn’t seem in a hurry to leave himself!
Hayden really enjoyed Halloween this year. Our neighborhood has a little party before trick-or-treating, and based on his reaction to that we weren’t sure he was going to be on board with Halloween yet. We took him to the party in his wagon, and he threw a fit whenever we tried to get him out of it once we got there (the kid loves his wagon). Actually, he would get out of it ok but he just wanted to pull the wagon around which wasn’t working since you can’t really participate in the party if you’re off on the sidelines pulling the wagon around. Eventually John was able to coax him to the party with a mixture of distraction and food.
Hayden loves Lightning McQueen from the movie Cars, and I found an actual Lightning McQueen costume at Target that was adorable. His costume was a hit as lots of kids love that movie and even if you’ve never heard of it, how can you not think a toddler with a car costume jutting in front and behind him isn’t hilarious?!
After the party it was time for trick-or-treating with our neighbor friends. He was good about saying “tck-ohl-teet” and “thank you,” as long as we prompted him every time. He came home with his bucket overflowing with candy – it’s going to take a long time to get through that!
